“Our children deserve the best”
Leap and Learn is an independently owned child care provider. We are open Monday to Friday for 52 weeks of the year. Our setting has been graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted.
We take children from 4 months to 5 years old at our purpose built nursery in Bar Hill, just outside the historic city of Cambridge.
At Leap and Learn we recognise the importance of having highly qualified, skilled and caring staff who understand that building strong relationships with families is paramount to everyone’s happiness and wellbeing.
We provide opportunities for everyone to further their professional development through training and workshops and constantly strive to improve our practice through regular self-evaluation and sharing of new ideas and good practice.
At the core of our belief’s we recognise the vital importance of Learning and Environment in the development of our children in these important early years. Our ethos of ‘valuing and encouraging every child’s potential’ encompasses all of these core belief elements.
By putting learning at the centre of everything we do, we are able to ensure that our children are best equipped to reach their full potential in life. We believe that learning is best achieved through play and we work tirelessly to make sure that our learning environment is one that encourages our children to take the maximum benefit from it.
We follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.
We encourage children of all ages in our care to understand the importance of caring for themselves, for each other and for the environment. We encourage traditional values of behaviour including kindness & respect to others, good manners, responsibility for ones actions, tolerance and independence.
Imaginatively Planned Activities
Babies – Staff encourage babies to explore the world of colour, shape and texture and help them in their first steps towards language development. With the exploration of heuristic play baskets and access to tactile activities, our babies are offered a stimulating experience from the moment they arrive.
Older Babies – Walking and talking opens up a new world with the discovery of new sounds and objects. Drawing and experimenting with paint, sand, water and learning to share is encouraged. There will be opportunities for the exploration of ride on toys and construction and we encourage children to develop a love for books, stories and playing musical instruments.
Toddlers – With a vast range of activities and in the company of their friends, children begin to learn independence and increase their knowledge of the world around them. Painting, singing, memory games, numbers and letters are introduced to form the foundation for Pre-school.
Pre-school – Within the pre-school age group a child’s concentration increases and they are ready to respond to the challenge of teamwork and group interaction. Activities are organised to allow children choice. They are given time to explore the environment around them and to learn through play. Our pre-school room is designed to spark our children’s curiosity and imagination therefore enabling them to learn at a pace and in a manner that is comfortable for them.
Pastoral Care – We provide a friendly and loving environment in which all children feel safe and secure. This provides a strong platform from which our children can develop and learn with confidence.
Independence – We constantly encourage independence within a safe and supportive framework. Children have freedom of independence to make their own decisions and learn at their own pace guided by strong role models. Children are free to choose, try and do for themselves, which leads to an incredibly powerful confidence building approach to learning.
We build strong relationships with families, so that information important to the wellbeing of children and a balanced routine is maintained. We believe that children’s learning and development is best achieved in partnership and so we work very closely with families to ensure that all learning opportunities are taken advantage of and encouraged. We promote daily, morning and afternoon communication with parents, supported by children’s daily diaries and progress folders.
